Well, hello there! How are you? Hope you’re doing well. Today we will be talking about headaches, yikes! But before that, let me tell you that I’m very excited! This morning I saw two little cashews growing in my cashew tree! Yay! I thought the tree was practically dead but no, Mother Nature is doing wonderfully.

I am also seeing huge avocados growing (*heart eyes*). My lime tree is also bearing so even though we just went through Tropical Storm Bret, things are doing well.

I’m pretty sure if you’re reading this it is because you are suffering with some quite annoying migraines/headaches. I know! And you’re desperately looking for a permanent solution, right?

Let’s be honest, anytime we get one of those headaches, it is near impossible to focus and function in our daily tasks. It has been a long time since I had any sort of headaches. I used to have them very often before I started thinking about my health.  So I decided to change my lifestyle and I would like to share with you what I did to get rid of those nasty headaches for good.

First of all, let me tell you that my headaches were so strong (especially after lunch) that I couldn’t focus or work. I would literally have to put my head down, rest and wait for the migraine to go away. It was extremely frustrating because I had things to do and those migraines were stopping me from accomplishing my tasks!

I also went to the ophthalmologist to do a general checkup of my eyes to see if the source of my migraines were related to my vision. He prescribed glasses that could help me reduce my headaches.  I wore them for a while specially when reading and even though sometimes it would seem to alleviate the problem, it was definitely not the solution.

So I would like to share with you what I did to help me deal with these migraines/headaches and hope these tips can also help you.

Bye Bye Dairy!

Do you know that casein, which comprises more than 78% of all the protein found in milk, is actually a huge trigger of headaches? We have been introduced to dairy at a very young age. Is it really surprising why a lot of people cannot handle/digest dairy properly? Folks, we are not meant to drink/eat it! Think about it, breast-milk is for babies. Cow milk is intended for…?  Yes, baby cows, not for human consumption. Since I stopped eating/drinking all dairy products, a lot of things happened. I got rid of flu-like symptoms such as runny nose, sinus issues, breathing related-issues and yes, headaches! If you don’t believe me, I challenge you to go dairy-free for one month and see for yourself.

Hydrate

I have personally tested (many times) the relationship between dehydration and headaches. I recall a few times when I was about to get a headache, I would immediately start drinking lots of water and guess what? The headache would vanish shortly after. I tested this, so if you’re suffering of headaches and you’re not sure of the cause please check if you are drinking enough liquids. If you’re not sure, just take a big bottle of water, start drinking and see what happens next.

A common recommendation is about 2 liters a day but if you live in a hot climate country like I do, then you will need more. Listen to your body, a good way to know if you’re drinking enough is by checking your urine. It should be clear as water.

Exercise

I know, one of the things we tend to struggle the most right? Exercising can help reduce headaches like nothing else will. As we age, we need to keep as fit as possible to avoid/prevent illnesses and aches. Please don’t think you have to kill yourself exercising two hours a day to make a difference.  Don’t feel intimidated, just set realistic little goals (10 minutes to start) that can help you get started and you will see the difference that it makes.

De-stress

Stress is a huge factor and that’s why sometimes it is hard to point out the exact cause of headaches/migraines.  If you are feeling overwhelmed, frustrated and over-worried all of these things will impact on your physical health particularly your head/brain area.

As a mom of three special needs children, I deal with high-levels of daily stress therefore, I ensure to do things that help me de-stress. Now, you might say “Sol, I don’t have time to do that!” but the quantity isn’t as important as the quality.

Even if you have 10 minutes, utilize those 10 minutes to do something you like to do and make you happy. Perhaps is watching a short clip on YouTube, listen to music, sing or prepare yourself your favorite snack.

These are just some of the tips I used to help me get rid of those horrible headaches/migraines and it worked wonderfully for me.

I would love to hear from you if you’re willing to try any of these tips or perhaps you have other suggestions to offer. Please leave your comment below.
